Why Choose This Recipe
- Like caramel corn but SO MUCH EASIER!
- NO BAKE treats!!!!
- No unwrapping and melting caramels!
- No marshmallows!
- Great alternative to caramel popcorn or caramel corn because you don't have to worry about chomping down on unpopped kernels!

- Individual portions of gooey caramel Krispy treats!
Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
- Rice Krispies - I have found that the brand of Rice Krispies cereal you use does make a difference. Off-brand krispies absorb the caramel sauce more than is ideal and may become soggy depending on which off-brand you have. So regular Kellogg's Rice Krispies are best to use. PS....you'll need a 13 oz box for this recipe.
- Brown Sugar - I use light brown sugar, but you can use dark if that's your flavor preference.
- Corn Syrup - I realize some don't like to use corn syrup for various reasons. The purpose of the corn syrup is to keep the sugar molecules in the brown sugar in proper balance so it doesn't become grainy. You can substitute agave or raw honey for the corn syrup to get the same result.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk - just a note that sweetened condensed milk is not the same as evaporated milk and cannot be swapped one for the other.
- Butter - both salted butter and unsalted butter work fine.
How to Make Step-by-Step Recipe Instructions
- Measure the rice krispies into a large bowl and set aside.
- Measure the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup into a medium pot over medium heat on the stovetop.
- Once the butter is melted, the contents are mixed together and begin to boil; turn down the heat to medium-low heat and boil the caramel for 3 minutes. This will slightly thicken the sauce while the sugar dissolves.
- Remove the pot from the heat and immediately whisk in the can of sweetened condensed milk.
- Pour the hot caramel over the Krispies in the large bowl.
- Mix to coat the rice cereal pieces well. I recommend using a silicone spatula instead of a wooden spoon because the silicone is non-stick and makes clean-up easier.
- Let the caramel krispie mixture stand for 5 minutes.
- Lay a long piece of parchment paper or wax paper across your countertop.
- Spray the inside of a โ cup measuring cup with non-stick spray.
- Scoop the Krispy treats out, slightly packing the mixture into the measuring cup, and turn them out onto the parchment paper to finish cooling at room temperature.
- Delicious Twist Tip -
- For salted caramel rice krispie treats, sprinkle the tops with flaky sea salt before the caramel sets.
- For chocolate caramel rice krispie treats, warm dark or white chocolate and drizzle it over the tops of the cooled treats.
Recipe FAQs and Expert Tips
I think they should last about 3 days.ย Honestly, I haven't ever had a batch last longer than 24 hours, but if stored as instructed above, they should last about 3 days.
Preferably, serve these the same day they are made.ย If you were to make them the night before giving them out or taking them somewhere, they'd be fine, too.
Unlike a traditional rice krispie treat, you don't want to store these in an airtight container. The moisture from the sugars will turn them soggy pretty quickly. It's best to store this dessert recipe in a loosely covered container with wax paper between layers. A little air flow will keep them from getting too moist.
