Is someone constantly sampling your Thanksgiving meal before you can even serve it! These pie dough cinnamon swirls will ward off those sneaky snackers!
There you are in your kitchen busily preparing a Thanksgiving feast for your family. It seems that every time you turn around to grab something, you turn back around to find a spoonful of something gone, the edge of the crust around your pumpkin pie is partially missing, or the center roll of the pan is has mysteriously disappeared. Oh, and that can of olives you just opened? Yeah, there are 3 olives left. Sound familiar. So how do you combat those sneaky pre-Thanksgiving snackers? With pie dough cinnamon swirls. Since I generally make my pies first, I make and extra batch of pie dough and make this easy little snack. They seem to distract and deter the snacking culprits so I can prepare Thanksgiving dinner without finding missing pieces, sections, chunks and so forth out of the food.
When I make the pie dough for these, I make is more moist than I would if I were making a pie shell. I want the dough to hold together well, but not be sticky.
Roll out the pie between two pieces of wax paper into a long rectangle. Divide the rectangle in two. Sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar.
Roll each half up lengthwise, tightly. Place rolled up dough in the fridge for an hour.
Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Slice up dough rolls thinly with a sharp knife or use dental floss to slice them up. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 450 for 15 to 20 minutes until they are golden brown. Cool and snack!
