Ingredient Notes and Substitutions

  • Barbecue Sauce - Use whatever brand of sauce you want.
  • Honey - you can use creamed honey or regular.
  • Wings? - you can substitute 3 lbs of wings for the thighs. They will only take 3-4 hours to cook instead of 5.

What you'll need for this recipe!

Step by Step Recipe Instructions

  • Whisk the honey, barbecue sauce and soy sauce together until smooth.
  • Measure out ½ cup of sauce and set it aside.

  • Place 3 lbs. of thawed boneless skinless chicken thighs in a 2 quart slow cooker or crockpot.
  • Pour the sauce will the exception of the reserved ½ cup, over the thighs.
  • Cook on low for 5 hours.
  • If using frozen thighs cook on low for 8 hours.

  • After 5 hours, turn the oven broiler on high.  
  • Line a baking sheet with foil.
  • Place a wire cooling rack on top of the foil.
  • Using tongs remove the chicken from the slow cooker and place the pieces on the wire rack.
  • Discard liquid from the slow cooker.
  • Brush the reserved honey barbecue sauce over the chicken thighs.  
  • Place the pan in the center of the oven, under the broiler, for about 1 minute.  This will set the glaze on the chicken.
  • Remove from the oven and serve.

Is it safe to put the honey barbecue sauce on the raw chicken?

Yes, you are using the sauce as a marinade to cook the chicken in. You will discard this sauce from the crockpot and glaze the thighs will reserved sauce that hasn't been touched by raw chicken.

What can I serve with these?

I personally love to eat these with Fried Rice. Another great option is Hasselback Potatoes or Crispy Smashed Potatoes!

What can you serve these with for game day?

Ooo! How about some Cream Cheese Jalapeño Poppers! Or even these Crispy Potato Wedges!

How to reheat and store.

You can refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat in the microwave, the oven at 350 for 10-15 minutes or in an air fryer at 370-ish degrees for about 4 minutes.

Description

Notes

  • If you want to use frozen chicken thighs, then you will need to cook them on low for 8 hours.
  • For chicken wings cook on low for 3-4 hours.
