Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Liquid Tang gives this orange buttercream frosting recipe a tangy twist with a lot of flavor!
- Tang makes it simple! No orange peel! No orange juice ! No orange extract! And no additional orange food coloring!
- Bright, beautiful orange color!
Ingredient Notes
- Butter - I used salted butter. If you use unsalted butter add ⅛ teaspoon salt to this recipe.
- Tang - Use the tang liquid flavoring. You can't substitute the powdered mix for this. The liquid is super concentrated and it would take A LOT of the powder as well as make a gritty frosting.
Couple Things You'll Need
Step by Step Instructions
- In a large bowl with a hand mixer or in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, beat the room temperature ½ cup butter and ¼ cup shortening together well.
- Add 2 cups of powdered sugar and beat at a low speed until all the powdered sugar is incorporated.
- Add 2 tablespoons milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 2 teaspoons tang liquid flavoring. Beat well.
- Beat in the remaining 2 cups of powdered sugar.
- Scrape down the sides of bowl and mix buttercream frosting at a medium speed until it's a fluffy consistency.
- This frosting is a stiffer consistency suited for piping. If you needed a softer frosting that's easier to spread add a little bit of milk at a time to reach the desired consistency you are needing.
- Scoop into a frosting bag with the tip of your choice and frost cupcakes or cake!
- Store extra frosting in an airtight container in the fridge.
