This creamy orange frosting recipe is amazing! Perfect orange flavor that comes from an unlikely ingredient! That's right! Tang is not just for astronauts! So whip up a a batch of this flavored buttercream to go with your favorite cookies, cakes or cupcakes!


Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup Butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup Shortening
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Tbs Milk
  • 2 tsp Tang Flavoring Liquid
  • 4 cups Powdered Sugar



  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and shortening together until smooth.
  2. Beat in half the powdered sugar.
  3. Beat in the vanilla, milk and tang flavoring.
  4. Beat in the last of the powdered sugar and beat until fluffy.


  • DO NOT use the powdered tang mix for this frosting.
  • Makes enough frosting to thickly frosting 15 cupcakes or thinly frost 24.
